The Steering Committee of the New Mexico Coalition to Repeal the Death Penalty meets every other month in either Albuquerque or Santa Fe. (Although meetings are open to anyone, only those persons who sit on the Steering Committee are allowed to vote.) Between meetings, an executive committee is authorized to act on behalf of the whole body. Executive committee members include the Co-Chairs, the Finance Committee Chair, the Government Committee Chair and one at-large member elected by the body.

Members take active roles in Coalition
activities, are included in the decision-making process and vote on
matters before the Committee. Members are expected to attend at
least one-half of the meetings throughout the year, and those who
are unable to attend a noticed
meeting are asked to contact either the Coalition Coordinator or one of the two Co-Chairs. Members are also expected to serve on at least one Subcommittee for a one- to two-year term, which can be continued. Selection of new Steering Committee members is made by submission of a letter of interest from the prospective member and vote for approval of the applicant by two-thirds of the existing membership. No more than 20 persons serve at any one time. Steering Committee co-chairs serve for staggered one- to two-year terms and may be re-appointed by approval of two-thirds of the membership
